History of Assandh

Assandh in Karnal district has a remarkable history. Archeological excavations has led to the findings of Painted Grey Ware, which is associated with Vedic age. The biggest Buddhist Stupa of India, which is more than 200 year old, is the important historic monument of Assandh. The city is identified with ancient Asandivat, a capital of the Kuru Kingdom, which was the first recorded state in ancient India, c. 1200 BCE.

Geography of Assandh

Assandh city is located in Karnal district of Haryana state with latitude 29.51°N and longitude 76.72°E. The city is located 48 km towards west from district head quarters Karnal. It is a Tehsil head Quarter. Assandh is surrounded by Safidon Tehsil, Alewa Tehsil, Rajoun Tehsil and Pillukhera Tehsil. It is located in the border of Karnal district and Jind district. The nearby villages to Assandh are Jain Singh Pura, Khanda Kheri, dupedi, Ardana, New Jhinda, dera Gama, Chogama, Bandrala, Khizra Bad, Rangrooti Khera, Jabhala, Fafdana, Thali, Ulpani, Salwan, Popran, Jalmana, CHochra, Tharwa Majra, Golli, Ballah, Shekhpura, Pada, etc.

Tourist Places in Assandh

Even though Assandh is a small city, it has some exciting options from a tourist’s point of view. The main attraction of this city is the 200 year old huge Buddhist stupa. Raised on an earthen platform, it is built with bricks. It is the biggest Buddhist stupa in India with 25-metre height and at least 75 metres diameter. There is also Gurudwara of Sikhdharam temple and a Sanatan Dharm Mandir.
